Space: Fact & Fiction’ is a great family exhibition with lots of activities and things to do.

Get up close to a Dr Who Tardis and Martian War Machine from War of the Worlds, see some real meteorites that fell to Earth and find out how to become an astronaut. Discover more about the planets in our solar system, see some early orreries and telescopes including a replica of Newton’s reflecting telescope which helped scientists observe space more clearly kindly loaned to us from the Whipple Museum of the History of Science.

In our exhibition you can also explore space related connections to Essex, from fabrics produced by Warner & Sons to commemorate the first moon landing in 1969 to Gustav Holst writing his orchestral suite ‘The Planets’ in Thaxted. See a cine film of NASA’s space shuttle visit to Stansted Airport in 1983 and find out how Chelmsford based company Teledyne e2v have designed and delivered image sensors for over 150 space missions.

‘Space: Fact& Fiction’ has been generously funded by Braintree District Councilors’ Community Grant, Arts Council England Cultural Recovery Fund and the Friends of Braintree Museum. It has also been supported by North Essex Astronomical Society and many private collectors.
